I would keep, Comparing todays medicine with interplanetary travel.

I would discard Comparing the history of medicine with the horse-and buggy days  

The main reason is that history of medicine , has a tremendous contribution towards health care and they are the corner stone for the evolution of current sucess of this field. In the initial days there were no technologies to support the medical research, but with constant determination and hardships ,they have paved the way for future. Without their contribution we will never be where we are now.. .
