It can be defined as "a harmonized combination of multiple resources and skills that distinguish a firm in the marketplace" and therefore are the foundation of companies' competitiveness.It includes Internal knowledge, skills, and competencies of the employees inherent in the functional areas. Core capabilities include technical know-how, technical skills, business process know-how and business skills. Distinct capabilities are those things that the organisation is better at doing than its competitors.

Toyota’s core competency has been :-
