Why in photovoltaic materials, photoluminescence somehow disappeared (also called PL quenching), and this is also desired in photovoltaic materials?

Photovaltaic devices are used as the energy conveters.They use organic matter to absorb electrons and cinvert them into energy like solar plates. And there will be no electron exchange as they do not have any intermolecules. Thereafter asemiconducter oxides like TiO2,ZnO be used. The electrons in the materials moves to and fro and then the formed energy saved at desired position.

Quenching refers to decrese in the intensity of rays. Energy transfer, complex formation are examples to cause quenching. The quenching often heavily dependent on pressure and temperature. Quenching posses a problem in non-instant spectroscopic methods like laser induced flourosence.

Molecular oxygen and iodides are major quenchers in a compound or substance.

From the above data we can observe that in photovoltaic materials they used oxide containing semiconductors, some how that causes the photoluminiscense quenching.
