Artificial eye is a prosthetic replacement .It is to be cleaned in the following way

  • Cleanse it with cooled boiled water with mild soap as per the order
  • Clean the eye socket after thorough handwashing every 1 to 3 weeks
  • A lubricant can be used for dryness
  • While inserting lift the upper lid and insert the eye,release and then pull the lower lid to fix it in the socket.(Finger )
  • In suction method the prosthesis should be attached to the suction by squeezing the handle, lift the upper lid place it and release the suction and pull the lower lid
  • It has to be replace every 3 to 5 years
  • While removing pull down the lower lid,then the index finger has to be slides towards the ear ,wait for a while till the prosthesis slides out
  • Use protective eye glasses
  • To prevent dryness and damage it can be stored in a weak saline like normal saline

Ans.Store the artificial eye in labelled container filled with 0.9% sodium chloride solution
