The career goals are very important to develop the profession. A nurse can shape her career into a clinician, researcher, educator and as an administrator.

The nurse can aimed to became a practitioner by developing her knowledge and skills. The nurse can aimed it by taking up practitioner courses , improving the assessment skills, diagnose the medical and nursing conditions, Plan the health needs according to the priority and do the health care tequired for the client. The nurse should focus on physical, psychological, social and sporitual needs of the client. The health care practices can be upgraded on the basis of evidence based practice. The nurse can act as a case manager, collaborator, counsellor, teacher, advocate , decision maker for the betterment of t he client needs. She should develop leadership skills and advicacy skills to execute the nursing care.

The nurse as a researcher can improve the careers by involving in more of research projects and enhance the contribution towards evidence based practice. The publication of projects helps to disseminate the knowledge globally by selecting a journal which has well known indexing ( eg. Scopus index) and with high impact factor. The nurse also aim for the doctoral degree to upgrade the profession.

The nurse educator has a wide scope in shaping the career of nursing students. The nurse educator can provide knowledge, provide practice in nursing care, can conduct supervised clinics an assessand evaluate the theortical and practice skills among the students.

Participating in exploring health careers is imporatant because it provides an opportunity to understand more about the career in the health care. It gives an understanding to explore ones area of interest and competancy in a particular area of health. It motivates the individual to part in particular health career and adherence to the career will be more if they get a hands on experience before choosing the career.
