Compare the values of the 17th century Dutch Republic to 17th century France.

How did their different values affect the art created in each culture?

Dutch Republic had a golden age during 17th century ,they mainly lead in creativity ,had a great international outlook and entrepreneurship.France in 17th century was ruled by absolute monarchy.

They lead in global trade and demand for art increased that even lower classes had paintings with them. 17th-century French art known as Baroque, adherence to certain rules of proportion started from mid 17th century.

Dutch had made great achievements in architecture and sculpture. Most famous architect are Pieter Vingbooms, Hendrick de Keyser ,Lieven de Key etc. Great architectural works in France also especially to glorify France and the ruler.

Netherlands was tolerant nation towards all religion .Protestants had great wealth and social status as compared to others.

Eventhough urbanisation reached so high , nobles continue to enjoy great privileges.

French literature was written for ome occasions and the rose a new form of narrative fiction.

Dutch attracted great scholars and had lawyers with wide knowledge in commercial and international law of sea.

Domestic Industries developed and best examples are sugar refinaries and shipyards. More and more lands were used.

Income was the prime factor that determined the social status and Dutch society was dominated by merchant class.

Dutch company enjoyed a monopoly in trade with Japan. France started trade with India and Madagascar

Women were mainly engaged in household tasks.Very few Women in Francewas engagd in power and education was increasingly institutionalised.

This period saw the rise of enlightened people in French society that continued till French revolution.
