United Airlines has redefined its offerings on the basis of service orientation. The company not only sells seats on its flights but also provides a good level of services on board that is warm and that will make the fliers comfortable while on a United Airlines flight. Other core competencies of United Airlines consist of high degree of professionalism that arises from the high level of managerial skills that its managers and leaders have. The high level of managerial skills ensures flexibility in operations and also leads to high degree of logistical capabilities. Lastly the airline provides reliable services and is known for its on time performance, optimal rescheduling of flights due to external factors beyond its control (like adverse weather conditions), etc.

These core competencies help United Airlines with regards to both service augmentation as well as sales augmentation in the long run.
