Answer #1

1. Available drug azithromycin 500mg dry powder.

To achieve 100 mg/ ml you need to dilute it with 4.8 ml of SWFI. Then it will total become 5ml (4.8mkl SWFI and 0.2ml is powder)

1. to achieve 2mg/ml concentration the total volume will be 250ml

500mg + 250ml = 2mg/ml

2. Infusion rate for 3 hours is

250ml = 3hrs = 83.33ml/hr I.e The infusion rate is 84ml per hour.

84ml/hr + 60min = 1.4ml/min I.e The infusion rate is 1.4ml per minute.

a. The infusion rate is 1.4ml per minute.

1ml contains 2 mg

1.4 ml contains 2.8 mg 1.4ml x 2mg/ml = 2.8mg

Answer - 2.8mg will be administered per minute

b. The total volume you required 250ml for 2mg/ml concentration

So, Use a 250ml D5W injection solution and withdraw 5 ml of D5W and add 5 ml azithromycin solution.
