Each progression in the industrial food production/creation system that is handling, transportation, stockpiling, dispersion and advertising — has some negative external effects on the earth. Because of the exceptionally expanded nature of the modern industrial food industry, different food processing, handling and packaging operations create wastes of different quality and quantity, which are prompting augmentation in disposal issues and extreme contamination issues and these are known as negative external effects which is a cost that impacts individuals in the public arena all through the world who are not directly related in producing or consuming a good or service , here the industry causing the expense doesn't pay for the harm it causes to the third parties(people and environment).

The negative external effects/impacts of pesticides and fertilizers/manures (which are environmental toxins) on natural wildlife and water supply is all around reported. As of now, the "dead zone" in the Gulf of Mexico, where no fish or different creatures can live, has developed to 8,543 square miles, the size of New Jersey. This is because of synthetic substances or chemicals in the Mississippi River, especially composts, as it streams into the Gulf.

In the event that food that is fit for eating or consumption gets spilled during reaping or transport, or turn sour away, or decay in the market, we call it food loss. They for the most part happen inadvertently. And food waste is simply food planned for eating that is disposed of along the food supply network and can't be eaten.

Food waste and food loss both end up with a similar outcome that is food waste. It is important that food waste and food loss straightforwardly identifies with waste of cash, time, vitality, land, and a lot more resources.According to the FAO report 25-30% of our nourishment is lost or wasted in the world.

FAO (2011, 2014) determined three yearly costs of food waste and food loss:

1.Economic costs USD 1 trillion

2.Social cost USD 700 billion

3.Environmental costs USD 900 billion

Acccording to the FAO report if food waste and loss were its own nation, it would be the third biggest greenhouse gas emitter or ozone depleting substance producer. The food sector area has been evaluated to account 20% of GHG discharges.
