Answer #1

16. Order Dose - Dobutamine 10 mcg/kg/min

Patients weigh 180lbs(81.8 kg).

Available quantity 2mg/ml

Desire dose is

10mcg/kg x 81kg = 810mcg/min

Desire dose per hour is 48,600 mcg

810mcg/min\times 60 min=48,600 mcg

48,600 mcg = 48.6mg

You supplied 250 ml of the bag that contains dobutamine 2mg/ml

48.6mg\div 2mg/ml = 24.3ml

Answer - The pump rate will be 24.3 ml per hour.

17.

The total bag of dobutamine contains 250 ml.

We will infuse it 24.3 ml per hour.

So,

250ml\div 24.3ml/hr\times 60 min = 617 min

617 minutes = 10 hour 17 min

Answer - The total infusion will be completed in 10 hours and 17 minutes.

18.

Order dose 1500 ml in 12 hours

1500ml\div 12 h = 125ml/h

Drop factor - 15gtt/ml

Drop calculation formula

Volume in ML \div Time in Minutes \times Drop factor

125 ml \div 60 min \times 15gtt/ml = 31.25 drops/min

Answer - You will start drip set at 31 drops per minute.

19.

Order dose 2 litter of D5 1/2 NS with 50 meq potassium chloride over 48 hours

Per hour you have to infuse 41.6ml

2000 ml \div 48 h = 41.6 ml/h

Drop factor 15 gtt/ml

Drop calculation formula

Volume in ML \div Time in Minutes \times Drop factor

41.6 ml\div 60 min\times 15 gtt/ml=10.4 drops/min

Answer - The nurse will start at 10 drops per minute.

20.

Order dose 1 litter of D5 to infuse over 5 hours.

1000ml \div 5 hours = 200 ml/h

Answer - The pump rate is 200 ml per hour.
