Careers in Sports Medicine

Sports Medicine is the branch of Medicine that deals with the effect of Sports and exercise on the body especially the treatment of injuries so received. This branch of Medicine is a broad field with  multiple career opportunities such as Sports Medicine Physician, Physical therapist, Clinical exercise physiologist, athletic trainers, Physician assistant sports medicine, Kinesiotherapists etc.

Sports Medicine Physician Assistant

Sports Medicine consist of a multy disciplinary team of professionals concerned with the health and wellbeing of persons who are engaged in Sports related activities.  Physician assistant in Sports Medicine is an allied health care career that need a specialised training and interest in various health care services and activities related to Sports. A certified Physician Assistant can aim a career in Sports Medicine by taking a Graduation of accredited Physician assistant Programme.

( I am interested in this programme) Since childhood am interested in Sports and my childhood have experiences of Participating in various athletic items. But because of certain life situations related to family I couldn't shine there in the Athletic sports as the practices and training received is very nominal. Ever since I keep an interest in the field of Sports. Another hand when I received high school education, I was interested in Health care field and sought a career in Health care field after high school education. Sports Medicine  Physician assistant is a career that provides an opportunity to work with athletes and professionals from Medicine ( health care). It is a career that gives a good earnings too.

Education / Qualification for Physician Assistant Sports Medicine:

* Graduation in Physician Assistant programme ( after a basic degree ( general) programme. or Masters in Physician Assistant programme.

Course work consist of 3 years of theory block with exposure to different clinical areas and a year of practice by assisting a physician or surgeon, who is specialised in Sports Medicine.

* Physician Assistant state Licensure - State licensure is required for this Career. or

National Certification Commission on Physician assistant ( NCCP) should certify the Physician assistant.

Working Hours : Minimum 40 working hours per week.

Common work place: Sports Medicine Physician Assistant can work with the Sports Medicine Physician in the various settings. Common work locations  includes hospitals , Colleges and Universities, Sports organisations, high schools, Physical therapy practice centre etc.

Salary: $ 150, 358/ year ( United States)
