1.Anesthesia-

Anaesthesia is a loss of sensation in body part or in entire body when anesthetic drug is administered before surgery.

2. Emergence phase-

Emergence phase is the transition from the sleep state to full consciousness.

3. Endotracheal tube-

A small plastic tube inserted into trachea through mouth or nose to maintain an unobstructed passageway especially to deliver oxygen.

4. Extubation-

The removal of tube previously inserted into a patient's body especially that of an artificial ventilation tube from the trachea.

5. Fasciculation-

It is small, local involuntary muscle contraction and relaxation which may be visible under the skin.

6. Induction phase-

It is a period between the administration of induction agents and loss of consciousness.

7.Intubation-

It is placement of flexible plastic tube into trachea to maintain an open airway.

8. Laryngeal mask airway-

It is medical device that keeps a patient's airway open during anesthesia.

9. Maintenance phase-

It is period in which patient inhales anesthetic gases continuously.

10. Minimum alveolar concentration-

It is concentration of vapour in the alveoli of the lungs that is needed to prevent movement in 50% of subjects in response to surgical stimulus.

11. Post anesthesia care unit-

It is a critical care unit where patient's vital signs are closely observed. After receiving anesthesia for surgery patient is sent to PASU to recover and wake up.

12. Preinduction phase-

The administration of drug at the beginning of an anesthetic that results in state of general anesthesia.

13. Rapid sequence induction-

It is an method of inducing anesthesia in patient who are at risk of aspiration of gastric contents into the lungs.
