Answer #1

For a play like 'A Doll's House,' my choice of lighting will be a natural warm yellow-white in the opening act to show the warmth of the house. The natural shade of light will be chosen to show that all are lively and natural. The light will be projected through the windows of the doll's house. I want the doll's house to be shown as natural as if life has been breathed into it. So natural continuous lighting will be there throughout the play. There will be frontside and backside lighting to reduce the shadowing effect, which could cause damage to the warm natural effect. The intensity would be implemented by reducing the background lighting and by using focus lighting on the character during Krogstad's entry in act 1 and using dull lighting on Dr. Rank's entry. There will be an equal and uniform distribution of light otherwise. Krogstad will be shown using the intensified focus light to highlight the importance of that character. Dull lighting will be used during Dr. Rank's entry to intensify his ailing character.

Any sound effects in the production will be recorded beforehand and played during the enactment of the play. Background music will not be used in the play. Natural bird sounds, animal sounds, etc will be recorded and played during the enactment to make everything more natural. Sound effects will be used only thrice in the whole play; once during each act. In the first act, it will be used only when Dr. Rank says Krogstad, is morally diseased. In the second act, it will be used when Nora practices dance for the costume party. In the third act, sound effects will be used when Nora says Torvald that she is leaving him. The above scene choices were made to highlight the importance and to make it more effective.
