Answer #1

1).

  • Inpatient census is the number of patients physically present in the hospital at a particular point of time, usually midnight
  • Inpatient service days refers to services delivered to one inpatient in one 24 hour period , that is the time between census taking hours on 2 successive days
  • One inpatient service day is calculated for each inpatient admission when a patient is admitted and discharged on the same day

For the question given,

  • inpatient census at midnight =67
  • number of pateints admitted next day = 2
  • number of pateints died/discharged = 2
  • inpateint census on day 2 = impatient census for previous day

+ number of patients admitted

- number of patients died/disharged

=67

+2

-2

=67

Therefore, inpatient service days is 67

2)

  • Number of live births =1576
  • Number of maternal deaths ( deaths after abortions ) =3
  • Maternal mortality rate (MMR) is number of maternal deaths due to births/pregnancy related complications for 100,000 live births

number of maternal deaths x 100000 number of live births MMR=

  3 × 100000 1576 MMR=

MMR=190

Therefore maternal mortality rate per 100,000 live births is 190
