  1. General Hospital is a small hospital in eastern United States. It is licensed for 65 beds. They have a medical PCU (20 beds), a pediatric PCU (7 beds) a surgical PCU (19 beds), OB/GYN PCU (13 beds) and a trauma PCU (6 beds). In addition, they have 8 newborn beds. At census time (midnight), on July 16, 2011, General Hospital counted 52 A/C patients occupying an inpatient bed and 2 Newborns were occupying bassinets. During the next 24-hour period the following occurred:
  • 5 patients were admitted to the surgery PCU.
  • 7 patients were admitted to the medical PCU.
  • 2 patients were seen in the ER and admitted as inpatients to the trauma PCU.
  • 7 patients were seen in the ER and discharged to home.
  • 3 patients from the trauma PCU died and were sent to the medical examiner.
  • 1 patient died in the ER before being admitted.
  • 1 patient was admitted at 9:00am and died at 5:00pm.
  • 1 patient was admitted at 3:00am and discharged to home at 6:00pm.
  • 7 patients (3 from medical, 1 from surgical, and 3 from trauma) were transferred to other facilities that could provide a greater level of care.
  • 10 patients (3 from surgery PCU, 3 from the medical PCU, 3 from OB/GYN PCU and 1 from the trauma PCU) were discharged to home.
  • 2 patients (A/C) were transferred from the surgery PCU to the medical PCU.
  • 3 babies were live born (admitted) on this day
  • Of the 3 babies that were born this day, 1 was born at 1:03 pm but died at 3:30 pm on the same day. (Think NB A/D)
  • 1 newborn was discharged to home.
