President Andrew Johnson made a plan of reconstruction which provided the white south freedom from slavery and no role was assigned to the black in the politics of the South..Members of congress were angry because the plan would permit southern leaders to be elected to the congress. This caused the greatest conflict because the Northerners did not like the idea that anyone lending support to south earlier ,should be elected in the congress.

Reconstruction was a success . The 14th and 15th amendment allowed African Americans to get full civil rights and get independence in southern society.

a)Confederates in congress-This was the provisional and permanent legislative assembly of the confederate state of America that was there from 1861 to 1865.

The Freedmen's Bureau-was initiated by Abraham Lincoln.This was established in 1865 by congress to lend help to former black slaves and poor whites in the south as after effects of the civil war.The goal was to supervise as well as manage all lands which were left abandoned, control the refugees and freedmen .

The civil rights act of 1864 prevents discrimination based on race, color , religion, sex , origin of nations etc. Racial difference in schools , employment , public accomodations etc is prohibited.It provides equal requirements for all voters.

President Lyndon B Johnson signed the civil rights act .This was signed by 75 pens . The pens were handed over to supporters of bill likeHubert Humphrey ,Everett Dirkson . Civil right leaders were Martin Luther King etc.
