Failure to address a communication problem with employees may cause the situation to worsen even further. Many triggers of a contact break are easy to spot, such as variations in cultural and temperament, but others may take closer inspection of the overall work situation to determine.

The way employees and others who are involved in the business see each other and themselves can lead to communication problems. A group of workers in another department who feel less valued than employees may have problems dealing with those employees. A worker and boss or co-workerswith differing business views can experience difficulties in trying to work together as a team, thereby disrupting all or part of the day-to-day business functions. A stressful or emotional work environment can make interaction between workers strained. Whether an employee is having a difficult time personally or the business itself is the problem, such as an understaffed location, a high level of emotion and pressure may lead to arguments or lack of communication between employees.

One way that members understand the idea of communicating with other members of the group in groups and teams is when they experience a sense of cohesion. When we feel like we're part of something bigger, we experience a sense of cohesion or wholeness, and may find a purpose bigger than our own individual desires and objectives. It is the sense of connection and involvement that characterizes the interaction between loosely connected individuals in a group as different from the established interaction.
