Geragogy is a theory which argues that older adults are sufficiently different that they warrant a separate educational theory. The term "eldergogy" has also been used.

Review the term gerogogy. How would the developmental changes of an older adult affect the Information Processing System?


Remember the information processing system is made up of Sensory Registers, Short Term Memory (Working memory) and Long Term memory?

Geragogy is a learning theory it will be more effective to address the physical, psychological and social realities of the elderly population. cognition include learning, memory, and attention. memory to retain and retrieve information for later use. The information process occurs through attention. Information processing system including registration, storage, retrieval. Attention is important for registration on stimuli and processing of information start. Age-related sensory perceptual changing affect the information process.
Elder people have a negative response to their surroundings and people to do their activity. it closes their extraneous information. It affects their hearing and vision. There will be the less physical and psychological response. Short term memory to keep the things in mind for a short period, older adults have no deficit they can remember the thing. long term memory needs more attention, it should be maintained for a long period in an active state. Age-related changes can affect the long term memory. Their vision changes, lack of sleep, depression can interfere with brain function cause memory loss.
Teaching session:
-provide good communication to avoid stress and improve social interaction.
-provide information in an easier and simple way with mild activities.
-make them do regular routine work.
-Write and show important messages for easy understanding.
-provide an example and ask questions to remember the things.
-Advice friends and family to support them with their age-related changes.
