what does marquis is trying to argue in this quote? in the article ''why abortion is immoral''

''In oder to develop such an account, we can start from the following unproblematic assumption concerning our own case: it is wrong to kill us. why is it wrong? sOME ANSWERS CAN BE EASILY ELIMINATED. iT MIGHT BE SAID THAT WHAT MAKES KILLING US WRONG IS THAT A KILLING BRUTALIZES THE ONE WHO KILSS. bUT THE BRUTALIZATION CONSISTS OF BEING INURED TO THE PERFORMANCE OF AN ACT THAT IS HIDEOUSLY IMMORAL: hence, the brutalization does not explain the immorality.''

Answer #1

This quote by Marquis gives a differentiation of ending a life morally and immorally. Killing is an immoral act when it is done by self or others on mankind basis where all life deserves the right to live.Killing oneself is always wrong because it is an act of being against the nature in relation to the nature of death. Brutalization is a way of ending a life so harshly, cruelly which cannot be justified or moralised. Here the quote says this brutalization as an act which can injure an individual resulting in any harmful consequences. Therefore these types of brutalization is different which cannot explain the immorality.
