Nursing has long realized the importance of linking research to practice. Recent research has shown that Northern Hemisphere populations have a significant deficiency in vitamin D in their diet; obesity is linked with fatty liver development; children’s sports such as soccer are associated with high incidence of concussion; and air pollution contributes to high rates of asthma.
a. Critically analyze how the above research is associated with the pathologic concept of cellular injury
b. Describe potential treatments to cellular injury that are currently under investigation
A) Vitamin D deficiency in the northern hemisphere population may ne associated with different factors like geographic location and cultural backgrounds. Vitamin D synthesised by the skin performs various biological functions and body needs . Inadequate radiation UVB is the main cause of vitamin D deficiency. Air pollution is the major thing determining the amount of UVB that reaches cell injuries, bone diseases and various types of cancerous cells are associated with deficiency in vitamin D. Apotosis is a cellular mechanism regulated by the metaboltes of vitamin D. Deficiency in this vitamin lead to irregularities in various processes including cell adhesion and angiogenesis.
B) cytotoxic drug and radiotherapy are used to treat cancer cells. Agents with cell injuiry potential contribute to the malignant tumours. An urgent stimulus to explore all therapeutic approaches should be come inorder to have a good expansion of treatment. Tumour reversion, immunotherapy and genomic analysis of embryo foetal development are appropriate for future researchs.
