Lasix is a brand name of furosemide, which is a diuretic. it is mainly used to reduce extra fluid from the body or reduce edema in kidney failure and heart failure.

Nursing intervention for the patient taking Lasix.

  1. monitor intake and output chart to asses the ratio. it helps to prevent dehydration.
  2. It is a diuretic so always assess the fluid status of patient from skin, tongue, and eye and look for dehydration.
  3. Assess vital signs in regular interval especially blood pressure because there is a chance for hypotension due to excess fluid loss.
  4. Do electrolyte every day and check electrolyte levels of the body.
  5. Do not administer Lasix if there is low blood pressure and low potassium level.
  6. Educate the patient about the side effect of Lasix.
  7. tell the patient to change his position slow;y to prevent orthostatic hypotension.
