Nursing home patients include elderly or disabled patients they need residential care. patient safety is an important tool for elderly patients. Vital signs are a important routine care and it is a core function for nurses. vital signs include temperature, respiration, blood pressure, pulse rate and oxygen saturation. But sudden decreasing vital signs can be detect through alarm thresholds, time to alert staff if there is any abnormality in vital signs. It determines respectively if a patient with abnormal vital signs and knowledge in alarm setting. continous vital signs monitoring can imporve patient safety.
If there is any decreased vital signs inform senior staff and physician immediately. Kepp the emergency equipment and oxygen unit ready near to the patient bedside. Record the abnormal vital signs avery hourly in the patient chart. Be aware of alarm call bells. assess the patient's level of consciousness. Do additional investigation as per doctors' orders. Patient sudden decreasing of vital signs in nursing home patient indicate much reasons due to the aging process. Close observation is important to make the patient safe and avoiding harm.
