US globally ranks at 27th position, for healthcare system. USA have the “one of the best health care system in the world”, pointing to the freely available medical technology (than other some leading developed countries) and state-of-the-art facilities that have become so highly symbolic of the system. USA spends more on health care than any other country in the world, yet still suffers from massive uninsurance, uneven quality, and administrative waste. For eg. In USA approximately 18% are total population are uninsured.
The financing of USA health care centers around two streams of money: the collection of money for health care (money going in), and the reimbursement of health service providers for health care (money going out). In the United States, the responsibility for these two functions is shared by private insurance companies as well as the government, both of which are known in policy terms as “payers.” As such, the United States can be thought of as a “multi-payer” system.
Healthcare cost(ie. Cost of treatment) in USA is much higher than other country such as Germany, Australia, France, Canada, etc. Same service but higher cost of treatment in USA.
USA spends around 16.9% of GDP for healthcare while other countries like Germany, France, Canada, U.K spend less than 12 of their GDP.
The US spends more on administrative costs, but less on long term healthcare than other developed wealthy countries.
Hence, USA really needs to focus on efficiency and effectiveness of thier healthcare system.

For example, if I were to compare the medical approach with the public health approach to a disease or epidemic (obesity, hypertension, etc.), what would be 3 things medical approach look at/focus on/do vs. 3 things public health side would look at/focus on/do? I appreciate examples, they help me understand the concept better. Thank you!
