Although wellness approach, reablement approach and the restrorative approach are the ways to help aged people to improve their function and quality of life. In Australia wellness and reablement programs are in practice.

Wellness approach:

                            It is an approach that involves assessment, planning and implementing the strengths, capacity, goals of individuals and encourage the action towards the barriers, that promote the level of independence and decrease the risk to live safely at home.

Wellness approach mainly focuses on the dynamic nature to aged people for experience the psychosocial independence, participation and functioning to maximize well being. It also accepting the individuals will have different motivations and goals and need to look beyond the service.

Wellness approach to the community home care:

  • Gradually encourage the aged people who are having difficulty with doing daily living activities ti increase ability.
  • Build capacity,self confidence,self management.
  • Wellness focus on re-enabling and maintain function and reduce the impact of functional loss
  • Support communication with the community.
  • Support individual roles and ongoing appropriateness of service.

A wellness approach:

  • Identifies abilities and potential:It involves with different mind set to find out what people are able to do with the right support.
  • Look for appropriateness of service: It identifies the better outcomes from the people with a service: Example: Family, Community.
  • Allow time for services: Aged people need a services for a set period of time.
  • Assesses and develop goals: These approach can gather all the information to ensure the services that meet their needs to get their better out comes.

Reablement approach:

                              It involves time limited interventions that are targeted towards the aged person with a specific goal to adapt some functional loss and regain the confidence and capacity to resume activities.

Essential elements:

  • It is about helping people to do things for themselves rather than doing things for people.
  • It is time limited approach.
  • Sevices should be for six to eight weeks.
  • It mainly focus on outcome
  • It is personalised approach to individuals for specific goals and needs.
  • It provide intensive support to people.
  • It builds that people support them to increase confidence and independence.
  • Aims of reablement to maximize the independence and quality of life.

For Example:

  • Practice daily activities like cooking and bathing to help the person to regain skills and get confidence back.
  • It involves relatives in helping the person to live independently.

Restorative care approach:

                             It involves evidence based medicine intervention that allow a person to make a functional or development in order to avoid a preventable injury and with the help of interventions clinicians,health care practitioners can assess the individual health.

  • Diversion therapy
  • Speech therapy
  • Preventive therapy
  • Orientation and mobility specialist
