  1. Being a nurse i wear white starched dress uniform and cap,it mean purity, care and compassion. Many of nurses not even wear uniform to perform their duties. It is a incredible job.Nursing is job for patient care setting like hospitals, outpatient patient centered centers, long term care facilities and other health care organizations.Nurse perform their duties and at the end of the day they receive a paycheck for their services.
  • It is great job and privilege to work with people from all walks of the life.Being a nurse, you will do things for patients that impact them in ways that they experience in many ways throughout their life time. When people joined as a nurse with full challenging and frightening moments takes places in their life.
  • Nursing is an opportunity and it offers flexibility in scheduling and numerous opportunities for different types of employment and their promotion.Job duties for registered nurse: Efficient delegators, soothing care takers,Medical interpreter.
  • In my all years as an registered nurse ,my least favorite thing is hand down is to insert an naso gastric tube in to a patient if they are conscious. It is a flexible tube that you have to pass through the patient nose and guide down the back of throat and into their stomach. Naso gastric tube is used to decompress the stomach and left open to gravity and other connected to suction. When we do this to a patient,we have to them their head down and drink water from a straw as we try to pass the tube through the nose and into the stomach. This is most difficult. I have patients scream, swear, cry, bloody nose, and been vomited.I hate doing it because its is so uncomfortable thing.

3.It is fascinating to me to see this because in 2011,during my thesis defense,i made the mistake of saying that nursing the invisible profession.I spend two hours defense describing how, a nurse iin an advanced practice role was going to address this issue.Their is lot of reasons for that:

  • The amount of content we are asking students too master is an extraordinary and growing step. The bachelor degree is really intense and we have already removed electives and pushed the hours as far as possible.
  • Practicing nurse as in other terms of leadership, quality measurement and other roles were increasing. If nurses want any control over our own practice then we have to be able to say what is important, measure it,improve it,and show the value of the organization.
  • Informatics and research competencies are becoming more important. That is a great place to start but it is only one place and only the start.
  • Eliminate a lot of the confusion and we have now about roles who is what.Pick up masters degrees if you want them on your way to doctorate like other profession. And the fact is that nursing is a profession or are we an occupation question doesn't it?

4.Yes,i belongs to profession nursing organization and benefits it may includes:

  • Certification in the nursing organization practice area, usually discounted.
  • Access to experts and to specialty standard of practice
  • Advocacy for political interests
  • Networking with leaders in the field
  • Newsletter with specialty related information
  • Position papers and statement to educate member in organization
  • Peer review journals.

5.I maintain licensure for renewal process:

  • Registered nurse must complete 24 contact hrs every 2 years
  • Licensed practical nurse must complete 12 contact hrs every 2 yrs.
  • For relicensure registered nurse and licensed practical nurse must complete 30hrs of nursing related to continuing education in the previous 24 months and they have to complete the state required bioterrorism course.
