Answer #1

The benefits of warm-up include the fact that warming up prepares our body for any aerobic activity. As warmup gradually revs up the cardiovascular system by increasing the body temperature and flow of blood into the muscles. Warming up also helps in reducing the soreness of the muscle and reducing the risk of injury.

Cooling down after a workout helps in allowing a gradual recovery of the pre-exercise heart rate and blood pressure. Cooling down is important for the competitive endurance athletes, such as marathoners, as it regulates the blood flow. Cooling down doesn't appear to help in reducing the muscle stiffness and soreness that happens after exercising, (MayoClinic)

River rafters often fill their rafts in the chill of the morning. While rafting down the cool river their rafts stay cool. However, when they pull out for lunch and take their rafts part-way out of the river, their rafts can warm up quickly. If a raft warms up too much, they can expand to the point of explosion. Needless to say, a raft with an exploded tube is not very useful in the middle of a wilderness river trip....
