Carbohydrates are the source of energy. The most common carbohydrates rich vegetables include potatoes, peas corn etc. The body requires carbohydrates as it is a source of energy to brain, blood cells and muscles. Carbohydrates primarily present in these are glucose and fructose. Bread is a staple food in many cultures. Cereals, pasta and some starchy vegetables include into this catagory. A low carbohydrate diet can help to lose weight and control diabetes and other complications. Low carbohydrate diet usually contains 20 to 100 grams of carbohydrates per day based on personal tolerance. Some of the fruits tend to have higher carbohydrates than vegetables because of naturally occurring sugars. But these sugars are not all bad. For most of the people in appropriate amount they can all serve a healthy purpose without going overboard of carbohydrates.
