58 yom living in shelter for homeless. History of alcohol abuse. Hemoptysis occurred during coughing spell and patient was taken to Emergency department at local hospital.

Pt. anxious, chronically and acutelly malnourished, weak and in obvious respiratory distress. Nails beds cynotic and fingertips yellow.

Answer: According to case mentioned, the person is having hemoptysis. It is a vomiting of blood which is usually occurs from lungs. When the pulmonary arteries gets damaged, there could be lymph node or presence of tumor.

The questions that should be asked are:

  • Does the patient has history of smoking?
  • Patient has any previous medical history of respiratory disease?
  • Does the patient is a chain smoker?
  • Has patient caught pneumonia or any bacterial infection?.
  • The lifestyle of the patient ( previous and present)
