After about 1 minute the coach gets her to calm down enough so that she can take a basic examination and try and figure out the SINS of the injury The coach begins her basic examination with her history. She asks Karen the following questions: "What happened? Where are you hurt? What does the pain feel like?" Barely able to speak due to the pain and anxiety she is experiencing, Karen answers, "I was hit with the ball
