Answer: The recommendations for the postpartum teaching includes:

  • Breastfeed the newborn and try to clean the area.
  • In the non breastfeeding case, it is important to take measures for the breath such as swelling etc.
  • In the case of surgical delivery, it is important to take care of the stitches and if any kind of marks or pain occurs, report to the physician.
  • For pain management, Tylenol or Advil can be taken, it can be used for the uterine pain too.
  • Prenatal vitamins and iron tablets should be taken as it provides energy.

These teaching and care plan should be mentioned in the discharge plan. The client should be encouraged to take a better care of her and the infant. The mother should be advice to seek medical attention if any abnormal consequences noticed or occurs.
