The history of Saudi Arabia on health care system has begun from 1949. At that time a small number of health care staffs, around 111 doctors and 100 hospital bed was available. By the year of 1998 there was a vast unbelievable development in health care sector of Saudi Arabia. Devolopement in curative medicine is a notable thing. Prevention services started in 1950s.

In the current situation the ministry of health provides 60% of health services, with free of charge. A high health expenditure of this country has made extensive coverage with curative services. The main challenge Saudi Arabia facing is that the program has not been equally commonsurate with some issues regarding the development of health information system for the effective planning, monitoring and evaluation. Other notable challenges that the country face is the training personal in various medical field and the defect in the enhancement of preventive services for the patient.

The future challenge that the country will face is the management and financing of health services. The impact of curative verses the preventive services has a critical consideration. Training and development of Saudi manpower is an important challenge the future faces. Health development plans of the country like health care for free cost to prevent and treat diseases is another challenge.
