Community behavioural health organisations are the organisations which are engaged in delivering the health services that aim to prevent mental illness and substance abuse disorders and promote mental health in tjhe setting of Community.

Role: CBHOs are providing Mental health services in domiciliary settings, schools, day care centers and families instead of Psychiatric hospitals. CBHOs provide not only Out patient services but also conducting seminars and awareness programmes for students and employees, organizing self help groups for people who face Mental difficulties ( alcoholism), full or partial supervision of patients in halfway homes.

CBHOs are helping the public by making the services available in the community rather than the psychiatric hospitals. It helps the people to approach the health professionals without any embarrassment of going to psychiatric hospital. These Organisations are organizing rehabilitation activities and halfway homes for the patient whose treatment is over and are in a preparation to go to their communities, and helping them to phase the life without fear.

Mental health issues are rapidly growing in the Country of Saudi Arabia , that includes from minor disorders such as Anxiety to severe disorders like Schizophrenia. When comparing with the health system of previous decades , Saudi's Mental health system got improved a lot. Now the Country spends an annual amount of ~ $ 113 billion for Mental health services. These services are provided through Mental hospitals, Community Mental health organisations, and other care centers. MOH is now much concren about Mental health system. There are around 20 government psychiatric hospitals through out the country.

CBHOs in Saudi Arabia:

* Community Mental health organisations deliver the Mental health services including out patient services in community settings, it helps the people by protecting them from the shame and embarrassment of going to Mental hospitals.

In Saudi Arabia, these organization has done many services such as raising the quality of mental health services, integration of behavioural health care to primary health care, expansion of access to mental health services by co-operating with primary clinics etc.

We can analyse the role of community behavioural health organization in Saudi Arabia by collecting and documenting data related to mental health. Later the trends can be compared with the data of developing countries for better understanding the progress. This organization is successful in allocating a major portion in the health budget for mental health services and total beds for mental health issues. They played a major role in improving diagnosis and treatments for mental health problems. MOH is the main provider of public mental health care in Saudi Arabia. By coordinating, evaluating and integrating mental health services, MOH has done a great job of improving the quality of care. * Provide the facilities of halfway home( residential set up , where the patient, who are almost cured, rehabilitated can stay) with partial of full supervision, make them easily adjust with the society.

* Set up Self help groups for Mental health. Example: Group for Alcoholic patients, those who need to stop.

* Provide services in the Psychiatric wards of General hospitals

* Assign mental health teams for each areas to find out the early signs of Psychosis.

The Prevalence rate of Mental illness in Saudi Arabia is not so clear due to lack of research studies, but reports show that the burden of Mental illness is increasing day by day in the country . That includes minor disorders such as Anxiety to severe disorders like Schizophrenia.

There is a good network of Mental health services available presently in Saudi Arabia , when comparing with the previous decades. CBHOs also in active function along with Mental hospitals. These Community Mental health organisations are connected to the regional mental hospital. They provide

* Out patient services in schools, universities, maternity centers

* They also provide inpatient services in domiciliary settings, residential units and PHCs.

* They provide services at 94 public Mental health facilities.

* Provide Mental health Education for the students and teachers

( still there is a need for specialised trained personnel in Psychiatric field and allied professional staffs.)

CBHOs makes there services accessible to the general population by Integrating their services with PHC ( primary health center) activities, school health services and maternity services. They work in collaboration with General hospitals Psychiatric wards, and provide services in residential centers for Mentally ill people. CBHOs can reach mothers and children through maternity clinics and school, where they can provide the Mental health Education that helps to promote Mental health of Individual, family and Community. Some of CBHOs provide training for the PHC staff in ' how to identify signs of Mental illness ' so that they can refer the cases.

Prevalence and incidence rate of Mental illness was growing rapidly in the country and until the recent years and the Mental health systems were not so organized , was concentrating only in few Mental hospitals.

On the year of 2006 , Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ( KSA) proposed and passed the National Mental health policy, since then Mental health systems and services are rapidly evolved in the country, throughout different towns and villages. In KSA 20 psychiatric hospitals and 44 psychiatric clinics are running well functioned. Community behavioural health organisations also delivering its services in the country, but it is in primary stage, not actively started its functions in full energy. There is a lack of well trained professionals such as doctors and psychiatric nurses and voluntary workers.

CBHOs in the country is engaging in providing Mental health services to the general population by:

* Helps in the supply of psychotropic drugs through PHCs

* Work in association with Mental hospitals in providing Mental health services to population

* integration of services with Primary health centers

* Organizing services for children and mothers in the maternity centers.

* Encouraging healthy lifestyle and health promoting behaviour through public education by advertisements, posters, flashcards etc.

* Conducting awareness programmes in schools against adolescent's issues, depression and substance abuse disorders

* Educate the mothers regarding the child's emotional and psychological health.

* Provide services in integration with PHC and Maternity centers ( for Promoting women's mental health)
