In ancient days gender has a major role in the social development of the children. Especially boys were given more priority than girls in all levels of development. A human life has many stages of development like physical, mental, psychological and social. Healthy individual means not only physical but also mental, psychological and social wellbeing.
In ancient era ,there was a lot of gender influences in the social development of a child.Boys used to get more attention in the social world than girls. They were more likely to be a school being, and of course physically considered as more strong, and also an integral part of family as family extended by him.
In this modern era people attitudes have been changed a lot as male and female are learned to be treated as same.
Man is a social being influencing the conduct of others and
being influenced by their behavior, in his turn. Social
relationships depend upon the mutual adjustment between such
behaviors. Every society has some norms and standards regarding
social development. A child who accepts and obeys the traditions,
customs and adjusts with the social norms is said to be sociable.
Gender does influence how young people social develop, but before
puberty, girls and boys are much more alike than they are
different. In early childhood, girls and boys share many of the
same characteristics and engage in many of the same types of
activities. Throughout the first few years of elementary school,
boys and girls both enjoy participating in team sports, playing
organized games and working cooperatively in small groups. As they
grow older, girls and boys begin to develop behaviors unique to
their gender. Understanding the differences between boys and girls
at each is key to developing effective programs .Most research on
gender and social development has focused on gender differences in
influence ability, the extent to which girls and boys are
influenced by others. In fact, the extent to this topic have been
reviewed several time .
Social skills include the ability to establish reciprocal
relationship with others in a particular social context in a way
that is acceptable and valuable to the conventions of the society .
Childhood period is a vital one in the social and evolution. Social
skills are essentially tied to all the aspects of children's life,
and they influence their compatibility and conformity .
One of the social responsibilities of Primary school children is to
acquire the ability of establishing reciprocal and successful
relationships with their peers. Children learn how to behave and
judge by interacting with others about transformation in the social
experiences of the children and helps them to recognize themselves.
In addition, they learn behaviors like observing others' turns,
getting into partnership, cooperating, paying attention to others'
ideas, being a pioneer in works, and controlling anger . Children
with higher levels of social skill have more positive interactions
with their peers and show more educational skills in elementary
school .
In the conducted researches, individuals who have weak social
skills are exposed to the following negative consequences:
rejection by their peers , developing of psychological disorders,
quitting school , being dropped out of school, aggressive and
antisocial behaviors , seeking isolation, crime, and weak academic
competence .
However, some children have poor social skills in comparison to
their peers , and this issue engenders psychological problems like
establishing unsuccessful relationships with their peers, weak
academic competence , not taking part in secondary activities,
seeking isolation and social isolation rejection by peers, anxiety,
depression, and anger in childhood and ensuing years .
Children's social competences are deeply influenced by culture and
environment, and different cultures do not consider such social
skills to be of the same significance .Thus, various cultures,
social skills are different in boys and girls .It seems that more
skills to boys as compared with girls , and this may lead to
diversity in the applied educational frameworks between boys and
girls
