HEALTH BELIEF MODEL :  

• It is one of the pioneer models developed in the year of 1950 by US which deals about the health/health-related behaviour based on various demographic ,social and psychological characteristics.
• It is found to be useful in many preventive diseases like tuberculosis ,flu , HIV etc. This model is built upon many assumptions and theories .
• Four assumptions of prime concern are; perceived susceptibility ,perceived severity ,perceived benefit ,perceived barrier .
• Apart from disease it is also helpful in studying nutritional aspects and interventions , providing patient counselling and improving adherence.
• This theory is not that useful among patients with mental illness and improper explanation can bring an opposite action

HEALTH PROMOTION MODEL :

• This model is developed by Nola J Pender in 1982 and revised in the year 1996.
• It explains health in a different aspect - health is not just absence of disease but is a positive dynamic state. Thus it helps in uplifting a person's mental and physical well-being.
• It is proposed to act as 'complimentary counterpart to models of health protection'. Major approaches of this model includes; medical ,educational ,behavioural ,societal change and client centered approach.
• It mainly focuses on the demographic features , behavioural aspects and behavioural outcomes. This explains that each person is different and posses unique characteristic feature and some of these variables can vary like emotions , situations , social environment etc
