               New York is home to the Statue of Liberty, a symbol of the United States and its ideals of freedom, democracy, and opportunity. In the 21st century, New York has emerged as a global node of creativity and entrepreneurship, social tolerance, and environmental sustainability. The ethnic composition of the population of Kings County, New York is composed of 936k White Alone residents (36.2%), 771k Black or African American Alone residents (29.9%), 493k Hispanic or Latino residents (19.1%), 299k Asian Alone residents (11.6%), 67.7k Two or More Races residents (2.62%), 11.7k Some Other Race Alone. Thirty five percent of New York City residents are white, 26 percent are Hispanic, 26 percent are black, and 13 percent are Asian. New York's most identifiable symbol, Liberty Enlightening the World (the Statue of Liberty), a gift from France for the American centennial, was completed in 1886. There are over 1,000 cultural organizations in the five boroughs, each with specific ties to communities, each with vastly different organizational structures and sizes, and each integral to the diversity of culture that defines New York City. The largest ethnic groups as of the 2005 census estimates are: African American, African or Caribbean, Puerto Ricans, Italians, West Indians, Dominicans, Chinese, Irish, Russian, and German. The Puerto Rican population of New York City is the largest outside Puerto Rico.
