5) Caregivers are those people who help their suffering loved ones in managing their basic activities such as eating, administering medications, bathing and using bathroom. These caregivers are mostly untrained, unskilled and without formal education about caring of patients.These people are basically required in cases of mental disorders like dementia, Alzheimer and multiple chronic conditions. They are at higher risk of developing health issues of their own .

Nurses must access and evaluate the availability, capacity, skills, knowledge, resources of the caregivers and accordingly provide skilled training, guidance to them so that they can provide better quality care to the loved ones in their homes. As a result , it helps to avoid long term expensive care facilities at hospital. They also teach them how to stay healthy and well while providing care to the loved ones.

Nurses must consider the duration and quantity when guiding the caregivers about the therapeutic plan . They must teach them to monitor the new signs and symptoms, side effects and positive response of treatment. In case of any adverse effects , they must report to the health care provider immediately. They also provide skilled training in handling medical equipments, about wound caring and lifting and turning the patients.

Nurses must address all issues of the caregivers and support them in providing better care to the loved ones.
