ANSWER :
a) Asking open questions : In communication skills one of the important method to communicate is asking open questions to the person, which are formulated to encourage person express his/her feelings for the questions. Asking questions to a person includes in the formats of why, how, when, where, for taking clear responses from the person. In this method counselor makes the person to give meaningful answers.
b) Affirming : Affirming is defined as validating the content in a positive manner. It is one of the style in communication skills where the counselor talks within her and with others to spread positiveness.
c) Reflecting : Reflecting is a form of having good listening skills. The counselor has to reflect the words back again to person in a way that you understood the feelings of person correctly. Listening skills are very important during reflecting communication skills.
d) Summarizing : Summarizing is defined as the overview of overall communication process. It is concluding or highlighting of the important points of the communication.
Overall the four mentioned types above which are used during communication skills together called as OARS, used to make successful conclusion of any communication. In this form both the speaker and listener will get equal oppurtunity in achieving a desired goal/ plan of action. Without any one of the following skill communication goal is insufficient and may be fail.
DISCREPANCY : Discrepancy is defined as differences and disagreements on facts or situations. In communication skills mostly discrepancies are observed between speaker and listener about any topic.
FOR EXAMPLE : The counselor says to practice safety methods during sexual contact to prevent sexually transmitted diseases for some time, but the speaker wont agree to that person as in their family no such traditions are allowed. Between these conversations arguments will arise where both the parties are not agreeing each opinions.
