Construct a 3 to 5-year strategic plan that is related to a specified health care organization of your choice. The organization may be not-for-profit or for-profit. Complete a SWOT analysis, and include the following:

1. Internal strengths are related to resources and capabilities that effectively and efficiently allow an organization to accomplish its stated mission. Write out and discuss 8 to 10 strengths that you consider the highest priority for the organization of choice.

Health care industry is a fast growing industry with a huge potential for growth and success at business level as well as providing the most important and life saving service to humanity through health care and treatment to the public and also a provider of employment opportunities for many professionals.

A SWOT analysis is an integral part of the strategic planning process. It provides a good over view of the Strengths (S), Weaknesses (W), Opportunities (O) and Threats (T) and thus act as a guideline for further action plans to achieve the goal.

My choice is a Private Profitable Hospital at a rural area in a developing country.

Strategic Plan:

Provide advanced health care facility at affordable costs to the general population and to become the main health care provider in the locality with all the modern treatment facilities and specialized trauma care within the 5 years period.

Strengths:

1. Knowledgeable and experienced staff - Staff with high qualifications and experiences is the most important strength.

2. Specialized machines and Equipments - Health care system is undergoing drastic changes with the introduction of many modern equipments for early detection and diagnosis. Well equipped hospital is a well defined strength.

3. Documentation and database system: It is very important to have good documentation and database to know for what’s going on with the patients and how to change action plans accordingly.

4. Commitment and dedication: Well dedicated team who striving for the best care and satisfaction of the clients.

5. Referral System: Well established referral systems which helps to transfer out and transfer in patients as necessary due to community integration and collaboration among various health care providers.

6. Shift work for Staff: Flexible shift system which helps to choose the most suitable working time for the employees.

7. On call Duty: Willingness of staff to do on call duty if situation necessitates, like unexpected emergencies, disease outbreaks etc.

8. Willingness for continuing Education: Staff are willing to learn new techniques and continue their education and training through seminars, discussions or through formal or informal studying methods.

Weaknesses:

1. Low availability of highly qualified physicians and nurses locally which will increase the overall expenses by recruiting from other states and have to provide high salary, accommodation, flight ticket etc.

2. Lack of highly specialized new technologies for early diagnosis

3. Lack of facilities to handle emergencies

4. Lack of capital reserves

5. Lack of proper waste segregation and disposal system

6. Lack of disaster management system

7. Lack of proper ambulance services and emergency services from government sector

8. Lack of enough transportation facilities to reach in hospital in case of acute emergencies

Opportunities:

1. Increase in the number of patients in the outpatient units

2. Outbreak of diseases especially during rainy season

3. Awareness among population to visit the hospital if feeling any signs or symptoms of diseases

4. Increase in the lifestyle related diseases like hypertension, diabetes etc.

5. Awareness among people to undergo yearly physical check up

6. Willingness to undergo the necessary laboratory and other tests

7. Willingness to come for follow up and to continue treatment if necessary

8. Awareness of the importance of maternal and child health

Threats:

1. Increase in the number of other similar hospitals

2. Increase in the number of Alternative Medicine Centers

3. Many government regulations regarding the prescription of medicines and tests in private hospitals

4. New social media attacks which can cause mass dislike among people towards a particular hospital if some bad incidents happened to a particular client, without properly analyzing the situation
