Bacterial endocarditis is the inflammation of the heart lining, valves by bacteria (Staphylococcus ,Streptococcus) and causing permanent damage to heart.

The laboratory values of bacterial endocarditis are

  • Blood culture :It gives the presence of bacteria in the blood
  • CBC:Decrease in RBC production due to erythropoitein alternations, Increased WBC to fight infection, Increased ESR
  • Complement test:Decreased C3,C4 and CH50
  • Rheumatoid factor:positive
  • Urine:proteinuria and hematuria
  • Creatinine and BUN: increased as a result of acute renal failure
  • Liver function test:to rule out hepatomegaly
