Answer #1

I:E ratio

  • Inspiratory:Expiratory ratio indicates that ratio of time settings on a ventilator for inspiration time and expiration time to help perfect gas exchange in lungs
  • In normal spontaneous breathing the exploratory time is about twice as long as the inspiratoty time ,that is 1:2 .1second for inspiration and 2 second for expiration
  • This settings on ventilator can be modified according to different disease conditions

MV

  • Minute respiratory volume total volume of new air that enters respiratory passages per minute
  • Mv=vt(tidal volume)x respiratory rate
  • 700x17=11900ml ,11Liter and 900ml/minute

Ti

Inspiratory time amount of time it takes to deliver the tidal volume of air to the lungs

  • 60 second /respiratory rate=ti
  • 60/17=3.52sec

Te

  • Actual time needed to complete expiration

RC

  • Time constant is a dynamic measurement of respiratory mechanics measured breath by breath in some ventilators
