Answer #1

ANSWER.

20. Calculation of time taken for IV to run.

        Formula

gtts/min = amount of fluid (ml) / Total time (min) * Drop factor.

           From above formula

Total time (min) = Amount of fluid / gtts /min * Drop factor.

            Here

Amount of fluid = 1000 ml.

                           gtts/min = 33 gtts/min.

                    Drop factor = 10 gtt.

      As per formula

         Time taken for IV to run = 1000 / 33 * 10.

                                                    = 30.3 * 10

                                                    = 303 min.

                                                    = 5 hr 3 min.

21. Calculation of how fast would you set the pump.

             Formula

                Total number of ml/ infusion time(min) = X ml * 60 min.

              Here

Total number of ml = 50 ml.

                   Infusion time = 30 min.

         As per formula

Rate of setting the pump for Zofran infusion

                            50 / 30 = X / 60

                                   X = 50 * 60 / 30

                                      = 3000 / 30

                                      = 100 ml / hr.

22. Calculation of setting the pump for Decadron infusion.

             Formula

                  Total number of ml / infusion time = X ml * 60.

            Here

Total number of ml = 50 ml.

                     Infusion time = 15 ml.

   As per formula

Rate of setting the pump for Decadron infusion.

                            50/15 = X ml / 60.

                               X ml = 50 * 60 / 15

                                       = 3000 /15

                                       = 200 ml / hr.

23. Calculation of drop rate / min needed for infuse both unit within 8 hrs.

         Formula

Drop rate/min (gtts/min) = Amount of fluid /Total time (min) * Drop factor.

         Here

             Amount of fluid = 250 ml * 2

                                      = 500 ml.

           Total time = 8 * 60.

                                     = 480 min.

                    Drop factor = 20 gtt/ml.

      As per formula

                   Drop rate/min = 500 /480 * 20

                                        = 1.04 * 20

                                          = 20.83 gtt/min.
