C. Thyroid hormone

  • Thyroid hormone is synthesized in thyroid gland. For this process, iodine is required. T4 and T3 are two thyroid hormone. They are produced by iodination of thyroglobulin. In this process iodine is added to tyrosine of thyroglobulin.
  • Goiter is enlargement of thyroid gland. It usually reults from deficiency of iodine.
  • Edema (myxedema) is a feature of hypothyroidism (hypofunction of thyroid gland)
