Answer #1

The nursing profession consists of the diverse group of individuals who practice nursing using a specialized and unique body of language.Nursing can be considered as a profession because it provides an essential service to society, has a theoretical body of language ,requires relative independence in decision making in practice ,requires specialized education and has a code of ethics for behaviour of its members.Traditionally ,the history of nursing begins with Florence Nightingale ,who became initially known from her work in the Crimean war.She later created principles of care based upon her observations recorded during the war and the attempts that guided her practice.Building upon Nightingales foundation principles and the contributions of other early nursing leaders ,todays theory of practice has evolved to keep pace with the expanding role of nursing to include an interdiscipliniary blending of sciences and art and sociocultural development. There are many influences that have contributed to this evolution. With the changes based on historical progress, nursing has continued to change to meet the needs of those recieving care.Industralization, increasing technology and socio cultural emphasis are a few of the factors that have stimulated changes in the practice.

Todays practice of nursing is based upon the the American Nurses Association definition " Nursing is the protection, promotion and optimization of health and abilities ,prevention of illness and injury ,alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response and advocacy in the care of individuals ,families, communities and populations. This definition reflects the activities performed performed by the nurse and is based upon a five-part approach to the management of clients no matter where they recieve the health care services provided by the nurses..This approach is called nursing process .

Exposure to other cultures has helped nurses to undrstand and incorporate multicultural approaches to care that are both acceptable and necessary to meet the holistic needs of the diverse clients.Holistic care identifies nursing care that goes beyond the physical needs to include spiritual, cultural and psychological needs to help an individual achieve health.Despite common desires of clients, there is a need to remain unique ,so remember to avoid steretyping clients according to the cultural backgrounds
