Metabolic syndrome is also called insulin resistance syndrome characterized by obesity,high blood pressure,elevated blood glucose level and high triglycerides.Any three of the following traits in the same individual meet the criteria for metabolic syndrome,

  • Abdominal obesity-a waist circumference over 102 cm in men and over 88 cm in women
  • serum triglycerides 150 mg/ dl or above
  • HDL cholesterol 40 mg/dl or lower in men and 50 mg/dl or lower in women-it has significantly increase your risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.
  • Blood pressure of 130/85 or more -It increases the strain on the heart arteries ,eventually causing organ damage,risk of heart failure,heart attack ,stroke,and kidney failure .
  • Fasting blood glucose of 110 mg/dl or above.

Physical activity recommendations

  • Aerobic exercise helps to decrease the blood pressure,decreasing the triglycerides and raising the HDL level.
  • Stretching exercises improve the flexibility and prevent injury and allows joint to move over a wider range of motion ,musculo skeletal function .
  • Resistance training exercise increases the muscle strength.
  • Remember to drink fluids before and after exercise.
  • Do not exercise outdoor if the temperature is too cold or hot.
