Case Presentation: Should Public Funds Pay for Extraordinary Procedures?

There was a recent court case in which a middle-aged indigent woman, who suffered from insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, demanded that Medicaid pay for a pancreas transplant. The patient was reported to be uncooperative in her previous diabetic regimen and disliked giving herself insulin injections. Even though Medicaid in that state has a fiscal policy that denies payment for this surgery to all program recipients to state Supreme Court ruled that this woman had a right to the surgery because other people with insurance or adequate funds have access to the surgery.

Patient has right to be surgery because-

1. Supreme Court given permission for the surgery.

2. Patient has need the surgery.if the surgery will be delay the following complication will be occure- vomiting,pain,nausea.

3.patient was uncooperative before but it's possible after facing the problem and complication she will be cooperative this time.

Society should not pay for the surgery .insurance company will pay for the surgery.
