Patient History
Meg P. is a 21 year old female college student in the honors program carrying a heavy course load. She has recently been diagnosed with Type II diabetes. She is 5’6” and currently weighs 155 lbs. She has been prescribed an oral hypoglycemic to help regulate blood sugar and a statin drug to help address her high blood cholesterol. She is a golfer for her college team and regularly plays or exercises first thing in the morning. She admittedly has a “sweet tooth” and regularly snacks on candy.

Golfer, when they play in the morning, needs to stable their
insulin level. Healthy breakfast keep her blood sugar normal. carry
glucose and snacks during golf hours, daily blood sugar should be
checked. take care of your feet while playing golf. need
substantial walking and use golf shoes and provide special
attention to foot care
A sweet tooth can increase the sugar level. it can be managed with
some alternatives
-Substitute with a small portion of carbohydrate-containing food
like bread and cereal.
- Carry dark chocolate with less sugar in the bar, it has
antioxidants effect and control blood pressure and protects your
heart.
-Have naturally sweet foods like grapes, pineapple, berries,
strawberries and watermelon.
- Have sugar free candy and cakes
- avoid emotional eating. have a good walk and yoga when you are an
emotional feeling increase. A sweet tooth is not physical hunger,
it is a type of emotional eating.
Dietary goal:
-Having a healthy eating plan control the blood sugar.
- Manage the weight by avoiding extra calorie and fat diet.
- follow healthy carbohydrates like fruits, vegetables, grains,
legumes, low-fat milk and cheese and add fiber-rich foods include
omega 3 fatty acids like salmon fish and tuna.
Have healthy fats like nuts, avocados, olive, and peanut oil.
-avoid foods rich in saturated fats, trans fat, sodium, and
cholesterol
-Take half plate portion.
dietary recommendations for women who exercise need 1200-1600
calories per day. To maintain weight meg needs 3,137 calories per
day. macronutrients is the best mix of protein, carbohydrate,
protein and fat, the metabolic goal is the important diet plan for
diabetic patients, meg needs 275g carbohydrate, 128g protein, and
77 g fat. The total calorie level should be maintained with she is
an active golfer and to balance her glucose level.
-Avoid high amounts of nutritive sweeteners like sucrose, fructose
and add non-nutritive sweeteners.
- The fruit has a glycemic index range from 56 to 103 GI units, use
low glycemic index fruits important for type 2 diabetes.
Menu format:
Breakfast:
- 1cup of black coffee
- one tsp of nuts
- 1 bowl of multigrain oatmeal with skim milk
-2 pieces of whole wheat bread toast with sugar-free gam
Lunch:
- 1 bowl of mixed peach, apple, berries, and orange
- 1/2 cup non-fat plain Greek yogurt
-1 serving cucumber, tomato, and white bean salad
-1 tsp unsalted almonds
- 1 serving tuna and dill salad
-1/2 bowl of brown rice
Snack:
- 1 cup of avocado milkshake
-2baked beans on toast
- 1 dark chocolate sugar-free
dinner:
- 1 chipotle ranch egg salad wraps
- 1/4 cup hummus
-1 tsp chopped fresh parsley
