Please read and answer the question below:

Choose a law, policy, or regulation at the state, federal, or international level that you believe will have a meaningful impact on climate change. Discuss what aspect of climate change it will benefit (e.g.: mitigation/adaptation) and why you think it is an effective approach.

A policy sets out the goals and planned activities of an entity, usually a government or a coalition of governments. Policy outlines principles and methods that the government or any entity will use to achieve its objective. Policy may be codified by law, or it may be a formal agreement between governing entities. Example: In 2010, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources issued a policy statement on Building Resilience to Climate Change. The document outlines priorities for the state, including land use, infrastructure consideration, habitat restoration, research, and advocacy strategies. Legislation Legislation is another term meaning statutory law. These laws have been enacted by a legislature or the governing body of a country. Before a piece of legislation becomes a law, it may be referred to as a bill. Legislation can also mean the process of making the law. A law may be needed to pass to enable government to put in place institutional and legal frameworks to achieve their aims as set out in the policy. Example: TheClimate Policy at the State Level Maryland takes an active role in addressing climate change. In 2009, the General Assembly passed Maryland’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Act. Currently, more than 150 state initiatives are part of the plan. One such initiative is the Climate Change Maryland outreach program, a coalition of more than 12 state agencies. View this brief introduction to the Climate Change Maryland program:

Climate Change Maryland describes 3 important laws that aim to mitigate climate change: Maryland Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard The intent of this law is to establish a market for new sources of mostly instate renewable electricity generation by requiring that Maryland power providers supply 18 percent of electricity from renewable sources by 2020, increasing to 20 percent renewables by 2022. If ‘black liquor’ and other carbon-emitting fuels are eliminated as qualified sources, and if the state’s Portfolio Standard is accelerated to require 25 percent of energy consumed by 2020, additional reductions would be realized. EmPOWER Maryland Enacted in 2008, the EmPOWER Maryland Energy Efficiency Act set a target to reduce both Maryland’s per capita total electricity consumption and peak load demand by 15 percent by 2015. EmPOWER includes numerous state- and utility-managed energy efficiency and conservation programs. The optimization of these programs should allow the state to increase its per capita electricity consumption reduction target above 15 percent and enable Maryland to achieve additional reductions.

e The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is a cooperative effort by nine Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states to design and implement a regional power plant emissions cap-and-trade program. Revenues from the program support energy efficiency programs and augment EmPOWER Maryland and the Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard. The recent agreement by Maryland and the other RGGI states to lower the RGGI cap from 165 to 91 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent will directly contribute to emissions reductions by 2020.

Answer #1

Answer: Climate change in a negative way causes many other phenomenon which are not at all good for us. The Environmental protection act is generally made to protect the environment. This act ensures the protection of the environment at the high level such as prevention of air pollution, deforestation etc.

This act includes planting more trees so as to prevent the deforestation because due to this the complete cycle of the phenomenon changes. Reducing the toxic chemicals and gases coming out from the industry will enhance the quality of air. Because these gases causes air pollution.
