Various studies have been conducted and it is found that humor therapy is one of the important therapies that is used for patients in chronic pain, it brings happiness, reduces loneliness, and improves self-satisfaction in the patients especially who are undergoing continuous severe chronic pain.
with the advancements in age older individual starts getting various types of diseases due to change in the physiological functioning of the body and that causes pain, and the pain in older people or the young adult is considered normal and about 25 to 50 % older adult in the community suffers from chronic pain.
chronic pain is the most common pain in later life and almost all individual who is older tends to experience more pain than normal, some consider it the normal phenomenon of the body and accept it and do not seek any medical attention until it becomes severe and unbearable, some older adult couldn't control the pain and they seek continuous medical treatment without being relieved for a longer period, due to the continuous pain ,an older adult does not feel like going out and meeting friends, they used to be isolated and lonely, due to the pain their behaviour gets changed even towards their family members and close relatives and it brings an awkwardness in the mind of their own people, change in behavior due to pain creates problems for family and the residential care members.
the physician used to administer analgesics to the patient to overcome the pain and also some non-pharmacological treatment are given to the patients such as massage, cold therapy, heat therapy, etc, but these methods are only effective for a small period of time.
apart from pharmacological and non-pharmacological management ' HUMOR' is the effective therapy used by the nurses and the health care professionals, humor is one of the best sources of bringing joy and happiness in the individual and also it reduces loneliness and the stress.
humor enhances cognitive, psychological, behavioral, and various joy in the behavior and also it enhances the productivity of life and brings inner satisfaction for life.

humor therapy releases endorphins in the brain and the humor therapy is considered more effective than pain management by analgesics if both combined together have a positive result in managing chronic pain then using analgesics alone.
humor therapy cannot bring cognitive changes in the older people but it helps in enhancing physiological functioning, reduces loneliness, feeling happy, and they consider themselves as an important member of the society, reduces stress, improves the productivity of life, etc.
we can say that to manage chronic pain humor therapy is one of the best therapy along with pharmacologic therapy to improve the meaning of life for the individual who lives their life with continuous chronic pain.
