Because both are synthetic opioid. Methadone is used as a agonist substitution therapy for opioids after detoxification. Methadone have longer half life patient addicted to other opioid like heroine after sudden stopping them shifted to methadone dose( have less addictive behaviour).

On other hand nicotine gum also a agonist for tobacco addiction because nicotine is a chemical component which is present in the tobacco. That's why nicotine gum is a type of chewing gum which supply nicotine to the body with slowly absorption from mucus membrane of mouth and replace tobacco chewing and cigarettes smoking because is slowly absorb and helps in maintaining lower nicotine level in blood.
