Memory-Short-term memory increases during early childhood but later shows less of an increase. Long-term memory is a relatively permanent and unlimited type of memory that increases with age during middle and late childhood What are some strategies you could use to guide children in organizing and remembering information more effectively? What are some strategies you currently use to organize and remember information?

There are many techniques to organise and remember information.  

Some of the strategies I follow which can be taught to children to remember things include:

• making comparison tables and reading similar/related topics together . This improves my chances of remembering both the topics simultaneously and comparatively .
• Brain remembers information if it understands rather than just memorising it . So always try to understand the topic first . Relate it with day to day activities and know it’s application in daily life.
• visual memory - I generally watch videos of lectures I can’t understand and revise them frequently for better understanding and memory .
• stick notes, flash cards and wall posters- I stick charts or formulas to remember on my study desk or in my room . Seeing them frequently helps me remember them rather than just mugging them.
• Making short notes or synopsis of the topic and revising it helps me remember better . It is easier compared to reading the whole text again . Reading self made hand written notes is more convenient. Making notes also helps me stay focused. They say writing once is better than reading 7 times!
• divide and rule- one popular policy- I usually divide a huge topic into smaller subtopics and try to learn one subtopic at a time , maybe in separate  sessions or separate days . This helps me remember better and not get tired of taking too much subject at a time
• I can read only for short periods. Therefore I take regular breaks and move around to keep my body active and mind awake.
• Reading environment is also important, I feel. For me reading in library helps me stay focused and remember things better . I also prefer to reading while listening to white music . A calm surrounding helps build focus.
• tips and tricks like mnemonics help remember difficult things easily. Associating with common things also helps remember better.
• There are some advanced methodologies like memory palace where children are taught to remember information in a sequence of rooms in a place that’s strong in their memory.
• Using mnemonics to remember and patterns help us remember information in the specific order.

Any new information processed by our brain is segregated and  put in short term memory. To convert it into long term memory repeating is the key else short term memory is wiped off in few days. That is why most people tend to forget the previous days class if not revised after going home

Children should be encouraged to feel free to ask their teachers , seniors or parents for help with learning or remembering any information. They shouldn’t feel shy. Teachers and parents come up with tips and tricks to remember difficult things. Teachers are meant for making things easy for children.
